Meet John Deman, a black Greenwich Pensioner in the early 19th century who left his West Indies home to join Admiral Lord Nelson’s fleet! Hear about his life at sea as a young boy and in the Royal Hospital for Seamen as a Pensioner. This character was developed in partnership with the National Maritime Museum.
